Marking the first indoor dance performance since the shutdown caused by the global pandemic, on Thursday, October 14 – Saturday, October 16, 2021, 7:30 PM PT the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts will present one of Los Angeles’s leading contemporary dance companies BODYTRAFFIC. The company was founded in 2007 by Lillian Rose Barbeito and Tina Finkelman Berkett. The program at The Wallis will include works by Israeli choreographer Hoffesh Schechter; Chicago based choreographer born in Madrid, Spain, Alejandro Cerrudo;  Founder of LA’s The TL Collective, Micaela Taylor; and the World Premiere of Recurrence by Toronto native and company member Ethan Colangelo. This three-night engagement concludes BODYTRAFFIC’s tenure as The Wallis’ 2019/2020 Company-in-Residency.

Hoffesh Shechter’s Dust includes six dancers performing to music composed by the Schechter himself. Dust takes a dark look at the powers that steer us in today’s society. Alejandro Cerrudo’s PACOPEPEPLUTO is a fanciful work set to music by Dean Marin, including his icon version of “That’s Amore.” Recurrence (world premiere) is a duet created by company member Ethan Colangelo. The program concludes with Micaela Taylor’s SNAP set to music by James Brown and urges us to “snap out” of the social pressure to conform. A talk-back with some of the BODYTRAFFIC dancers immediately follows the performance on October 14.

“BODYTRAFFIC’s Wallis appearance is particularly significant as this wonderful dance company is finally able to complete its Wallis residency,” says The Wallis’ Artistic Director Paul Crewes. “Since Wallis residencies are a critical part of our overall artistic mission and support local artists, we wanted to ensure BODYTRAFFIC’s wasn’t cut short. We joyfully welcome the company back to our stage.”
