Produced in partnership with Colibri Entertainment, on Saturday, October 9 at 8:00 pm México de Noche offers an enchanting evening under the starts at The Ford with ¡Viva La Tradición!, an evening of energetic and eclectic music of Mexican nightlife featuring music by Pepe Martinez Jr., Susie Garcia’s Las Colibrí, Viento Callejero, and featuring Ballet Folklorico Ollín.

Founded in 2009, the all-female, all-strings Las Colibrí is led by Susie Garcia who has enjoyed an extensive career as a musician and a Mariachi. Garcia says that she is “committed to using visual and performing arts as a vehicle to educate and inspire audiences of all ethnicities.” By utilizing all-strings instrumentation, Las Colibrí is retuning to the music of early 20th Century mariachi tradition and their colorful costumes evoke the Mexican cinematic divas of the 1940’s and ‘50’s. “Aside from their unique interpretation of traditional sones, huapangos, and rancheras, audiences will also recognize sounds of jazz, rock, oldies, and R&B through their innovative arrangements. With a lovely blend of vocal harmonies, beautiful smiles, and traditional mariachi instrumentation consisting of a Guitarrón (Bass), Guitar, Vihuela (Soprano Guitar), and Violins, Las Colibrí will be sure to get you laughing, crying, singing and even dancing to their contagious beats and melodies.” October 9, 2021 Ford press release.

Representing a newer manifestation of the Latin music movement in Los Angeles, the talented duo Gloria Estrada & Tone Irie, known as Viento Callejero, break down the rhythmic and melodic pulse of Cumbia and fuses it with electronic experimental and psychedelic soundscapes. They have been called “the band that musicians go to watch.”

Known as Pepe Y Susie, Pepe Martinez, Jr. and Susie Garcia share a great love for Mexican music. Martinez, Jr. joined the ranks of Mariachi Vargas as a violinist and vocalist in 1993 and has enjoyed 25 years of entertaining audiences worldwide. García began performing with various premier all-female ensembles in Los Angeles. Together they share their talents to sing in tandem that creates an intimate, nostalgic and romantic experience for everyone.
