Dance applications are now being accepted for the 2021 The San Pedro ♥ Festival of the Arts, a free family event that over the years has featured Dance, Music and Visual Arts/Crafts Booths. This marks the 15th year for the festival, which Producer Louise Reichlin, Artistic Director of Los Angeles Choreographers & Dancers, presented virtually in 2020.  With the support of a Department of Cultural Affairs, City of Los Angeles Festival Grant, and other funding, the festival will be reintroduced live and in-person to the community in a slightly different way.

On September 12th, people attending The San Pedro ♥ Festival of the Arts will be welcomed indoors at Alvas Showroom, moving outside onto a large 32 x 28 stage in Anderson Park on Sept 19. To honor the city’s Covid health guidelines, there will be restrictions on the number of audience members for each live (free-to-the-public) performance. All concerts will, however, be recorded and shared online. Via support from a separate grant, for the first time companies participating in the Alvas Showroom will be compensated and, as always, there will be compensation for all professional companies participating in the outdoor festival.

A few of the companies that have performed at The San Pedro ♥ Festival of the Arts over the years include Louise Reichlin & Dancers/LA Choreographers & Dancers, White Crane Dance Theatre, LA Dance Company, Lissa Resnick’s No Strings Attached Dance Company, Invertigo, Navarasa Dance Theater, Lula Washington Dance Theatre, Freaks With Lines, Degas Dance Studio, Paso del Oro Dance Company/Traditional Ballet Folklorico, VIDA – Vannia Ibarguen Dance Arts, Cyberyoga, AkomiDance, CHAMPS Charter High School of the Arts, Pranamya Suri, Alan Perez, and Mixed eMotion Theatrix.

“We are interested in all dance forms performed by professional companies (usually about 20 selected but may be less this year) including traditional ballet and modern as well as ethnic dance forms, tap, fusion, jazz, and hip-hop. Each day also includes 2-3 pre-professional companies or schools. All performances will be live. As LA County rules go now, any not fully vaccinated in your group will have to wear masks, and fully vaccinated will not whether inside or out. Any not fully vaccinated will be asked for tests 2 weeks or less before performances. At Alvas, there is some lighting and projection available, but outside it is daytime and no projections possible.” –  The San Pedro ♥ Festival of the Arts press release.

HOW TO APPLY

To apply follow steps 1 & 2 below. Professional companies- length- 10 to 20 minutes Pre-professional/ community- under 10 minutes. We always receive many more applications than there is room for, so if you were not selected in the past, please try again, perhaps with a different piece.

We will have different works each day. There is always great diversity in the programming. To apply:

  1. E-mail louisehr@LAChoreographersAndDancers.org what you would like to perform with theme and music with a video link or video outline (if not yet performed), including a digital press packet, and contact info.

Please include if you already have that work on video with dancer and music rights cleared, but this year is live.

  1. Include an application fee of $30 (before July 5) Early Deadline

2a.  Include an application fee of $35 (between July 6- July 15) Final Deadline

  1. To pay, go to our website, https://lachoreographersanddancers.org/donate/ and type in the amount in Pay Pal. Attach your company name and “Festival”.
