A festival in threes, week #1
The opening salvo of this year’s three-week REDCAT NOW Festival offers a trio of dance and performance artists with distinct and varied perspectives on their chosen art. This curated festival brings new and innovative dance, theater, music, and multimedia performance from SoCal artists. This first week includes Achinta S. McDaniel and artists from her company Blue13 bringing South Asian fusion dance in Restless autumn, restless spring. Lindsey Red-tail offers You can vision with Them, inspired by a tale of a search for water and inspiration from the wind. Festival #2
Week two of this year’s REDCAT NOW Festival brings two dance works along with one inventive opera. For his solo Novena, choreographer Jay Carlon draws on his Filipino heritage as well as Bisaya rituals for grieving and healing from the southern Philippines. Choreographer Stephanie Zaletel and her contemporary troupe szalt explore foundational motor actions and intuitive choreography in 5 basic movements (vagus except). Joe Diebes brings his experimental opera Eng. More on the artists and week 3 of the festival at the website.
