4. No place like home
After eight years, Lineage Dance is leaving its performance home. This weekend the contemporary troupe says adieu with a final event with repertoire favorites, live music and a post-performance party. Lineage Dance, 89 S. 3. Something Sinatra dreamy
The long-running Brand Library Dance Series presents mostly contemporary dance troupes in a gallery backed by an idyllic view of the mountains. Now curated by Jamie Nichols, the series deserves attention since Nichols has strong credentials finding rising choreographers and companies deserving attention. The three performance series continues this week with Deborah Rosen & Dancers who draw on Frank Sinatra for Drifting…A Suite of Dreamscapes. Brand Library and Art Center, 1601 W. 2. Going Fishing
Over the last two years, Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre and Alex Ward’s architectural art installation dubbed Fish Eyes, has provided a dance setting and environmental provocateur all over L.A. This outing, Fish Eyes serves multiple purposes at this most marine of venues. The evening opens with dancers Danny Dolan, Amanda MacLeod and Himerria Wortham in movement and oral stories inspired by the connections between humans and the environment and concludes with a full performance of Fish Eyes with live accompaniment composed by Juhi Bansi. 1. Dancing for mom
For a certain kind of mother, waiting for brunch at an overcrowded chi chi restaurant is not the ideal way to spend Mother’s Day. A delightful alternative with entertainment and an optional al fresco brunch is MOMentum Place. Nestled in pastoral Topanga Canyon, the venue that hosts summer Shakespeare on Mother’s Day is turned over to LexiPearl who curates an delightfully eclectic parade of dance, circus, aerial, and music performers. The pre-show buffet brunch ($30) is available starting at noon in the theater’s park-like environs with picnic tables for dining, room for kids to run around, and a setting for adults to appreciate spending a special day in a special part of this city.
