Founded in 1997 by Artistic Director, Fran Spector Atkins and Media Artist William Roden, SpectorDance will present its annual showcase Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 7:0 pm (PT) and Sunday, February 6, 2022 at 2 pm (PT). Due to all the precautions around Covid, the event will be presented as SpectorDance Choreographers Showcase Re-imagined! celebrating “the power of dance to inform, promote dialogue, and be a galvanizing vehicle for change” – SpectorDance press release.

The 2022 showcase will feature new works by Angela Chambers (Santa Cruz, CA); Shany Dagan (Tel Aviv, Israel); Callie Dailey (Carmel, CA); Camrin E Dannelly (Monterey, CA); Nathan Hirschaut (Santa Cruz, CA); Ramya Harishankar (Irvine, CA); Tracy Kofford (Santa Barbara, CA); Jonathan Lipow (Monterey, CA); Margaret Wingrove (San Jose, CA); and Allen Xing (Baltimore, MD).

All events for SpectorDance Choreographers Showcase Re-imagined! celebrating will occur at the beautiful Hidden Valley Music Seminars, an Institute of the Arts. Artists are invited to stay for a weekend-long residency and local dancers and dance enthusiasts will have the opportunity to take workshops from guest artists, as well as an opportunity to rehearse and perform a new work at the showcase created by Baltimore-based choreographer Allen Xing. Participants are encouraged to come listen and enjoy live acoustic guitar and mandolin performed by Flynn Cohen.

Allen Chunhui Xing is a dancer and choreographer based in Baltimore. He holds a BFA in Dance from Shanxi Academy of Arts, a M.Ed. from Salisbury University, and an MFA in Dance from University of Maryland. He currently is the Artistic Director of Xing Dance Theater and City Dance Festival. He is a former member of Huajin Dance Drama Ensemble (China) and performed in the production Forbidden Fruit Under the Great Wall which internationally toured from 2007-2011. Full bio HERE.

Acoustic Guitar and mandolin player Flynn Cohen has performed all over the world with many notable acts in traditional and contemporary acoustic music. He can be seen in concert with the American folk band LOW LILY (formerly known as Annalivia), and legendary Irish Accordion player John Whelan, as well as duo shows playing music from his four solo albums. Rehearsals with Allen Chunhui Xing will take place from January 29 to February 4, 2022 from 5-8 pm (no rehearsal on Wednesday, February 2.)

South Asian Classical Dance Workshop (Bharata Natyam) & Indian Interpretive Dance with Ramya Harishankar

Ramya Harishankar is artistic director of the Arpana Dance Company (ADC), a premier school of Bharata Natyam in California and has taught several hundred students since 1982. Her solo performing career of five decades has taken her to India, Asia, Europe, Australia, and N. America. She received the Kala Seva Bharathi (India) award for her contribution to Indian arts abroad. Arpana’s 25th anniversary was recognized by the State Senate, cities, and organizations in S. CA, including the Helene Modjeska Cultural Legacy award from Arts OC, the countywide arts organization. Full bio HERE.

Tracy R. Kofford holds a BFA in Dance from University of California of Santa Barbara and an MFA from New York University, TISCH School of the Arts. Tracy has performed and choreographed nationally and internationally with his own work and Jennifer Muller/The Works, who he danced with for over 10 years in NYC. He has studied and worked with some of the world’s most influential choreographers, performers and dance companies. Full bio HERE.

Nathan Hirschaut is a performing artist who graduated from The Juilliard School for Dance in 2020. Over the past 15 years, Nathan has studied from the world’s best in dance, yoga, and artistic ideology creating the base of his spiritual, unconventionally creative, and wild performance art.
