Taking to non-traditional outdoor venues, in October and November 2021 Jacob Jonas The Company (JJTC) will present ACTIVATE LA in association with the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts with performances at Century Park in Century City, ROW Downtown Los Angeles, and the Water Garden in Santa Monica. ACTIVATE LA will include seven performances featuring two premiere programs.

JJTC was co-founded by Jacob Jonas and Jill Wilson and since its inception has grown caught the attention of critics and audiences throughout the country. With Jonas’ collaborations with photographers and the creation of Films.Dance, this recognition has expanded globally. Jonas’ connection with The Wallis extends back when JJTC had very first Los Angeles performance there which led to JJTC’s 2018/2019 Company-in-Residence at The Wallis.

Jonas’ movement style has been described as the fusion of contemporary ballet, breakdance and acrobatic movement.  I would add contemporary modern to that list of dance styles. The work is high energetic, physically challenging to the performers and sometimes teeters on the edge of concert dance and entertainment. JJTC’s website describes the company this way: “JJTC consists of choreographers, makers, creative thinkers, cultural researchers, educators, futurists, activists, and administrators. Our work engages diverse and untapped populations, increasing the visibility of dance as an art form in Los Angeles and globally through live performance and media landscapes.”
