Ann Haskins joined LA Dance Chronicle as a contributor shortly after it began and became a founding board member when LADC became a non-profit organization. Now semi-retired, Haskins was an Administrative Law Judge for the State of California; Chief Deputy to a Los Angeles City Council Member; Associate Director of Public Counsel; Board Member of the California Consumer Protection Foundation; Chair of the California State Bar Standing Committees on Consumer Advocacy and principal editor of the Committee’s Foreclosure Law Manual and Automobile Transactions Manual; Member of the Los Angeles Bar Committees on Economic Litigation, Legal Referral and Pro Bono Legal Services; Member of the Consumers Union Advisory Committee; Chair of the Pro Bono Committee of the American Bar Association/Young Lawyers Division; Vice President of the Governmental Relations Committee and Director at Large of the UCLA Alumni Association.
The first woman editor of the UCLA Daily Bruin, Haskins has written for Newsweek, Associated Press, and Coast Magazine. She is the co-author of Eat: A Toothsome Tour of LA’s Specialty Restaurants. A long-time writer about dance, Haskins received two Horton Awards from the Los Angeles Dance Resource Center for Raising the Visibility of Dance in Los Angeles. She provided weekly dance coverage for L.A. Weekly from its beginning until LA Dance Chronicle began, and has contributed local, national and international dance articles for Pointe Magazine, Dance Spirit Magazine, Dance Teacher Magazine, the Herald Examiner, L.A. View, the Daily News, and Los Angeles Magazine. Among her broadcast projects, Haskins hosted Inside Theater on KCRW-FM and contributed dance and theater features to both KUSC-FM (Now California Classical) and KLON-FM. In addition to LA Dance Chronicle, Haskins currently contributes to LA-based Cultural Weekly and Milan-based Gramilano.
Haskins worked with Los Angeles Ballet backstage as prop master and onstage as Mother Ginger in the Nutcracker Ballet from LAB’s founding in 2005 until 2020.
