For more than 25 years, the Nannette Brodie Dance Theatre (NBDT) has been producing a rich, textural blending of movement and theatre providing a unique and provocative experience. Artistic director and principal choreographer Nannette Brodie started her own self-named modern dance company in 1986. Her choreograhy has been performed in New York, California, Nevada, Illinois, Utah, Mexico, Finland, Czech Republic and France. According to Nannette, “Dance should be a celebration, an exploration of ourselves and our environment, of our culture and our world.” NBDT has performed throughout Europe, Mexico and the United States for over 275,000 people. This modern dance company is full of drama, wit, joy and invention capable of moving everyone in their audience.

Los Angeles Premiere – In association with CAP UCLA – Known for her intensely powerful performances, Bessie Award–winning Okwui Okpokwasili (featured at REDCAT in Ralph Lemon’s How Can You Stay in the House All Day and Not Go Anywhere) considers the collective amnesia around the Nigerian women’s resistance movements of the past century. With collaborator Peter Born, she mixes ritualistic and hallucinogenic movement, song, video, and text, creating a dystopian narrative in which characters slip through the fissures of time to wander in a bush of ghosts.

Follow the evolution of Celtic culture in Stepping Out, a high-energy extravaganza of sights and sounds presented by Dublin Irish Dance. These world champion Irish step-dancers, along with an eight-member traditional Irish band and vocalist, take us on a journey, exploring the history of the Celtic cultural experience through song and dance. This entertaining production reveals influences that have shaped Irish music and dance throughout history: from the farms of rural Ireland in the 1800s, to the vibrant Irish community that migrated to New York, where Irish and American cultures blended and influenced each other.
